"Hi! I'm Stanley Kong. I became a Bloom Tutor in December 2017, and it has been an incredible experience to tutor and learn from the students!
I remember how I felt before the first class; I was terrified! I had never taught before, and I wasn't sure if I had the confidence to be able to. But after getting to meet and tutor many of the Liangshan students, being a part of BOP really became an unforgettable experience for me. I have learned so much from the students about their cultures and way of life, but most importantly, I saw their grit. Every student I've taught came to class ready to learn, ready to take notes and ask questions. I saw in them a true desire to learn, a desire that pushed me to perform the best I could as a tutor and even as a student myself. They have truly inspired me to be a better self."
"Hi, my name is Rena Chen. I live in Great Neck, New York and currently the Leader of the NY Chapter of the Bloom Outreach Program. I have been a member of Bloom since 2018, and my student’s name is Poppy (阿尔罗业)。
I really enjoy being a Bloom tutor. Through this program, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many new people as well as have my own sense of responsibility. Working with Poppy helped me build valuable skills such as preparing for a lesson and communicating with others, and now I know that I am partially responsible for her confident English pronunciation. Without Bloom, I also probably wouldn’t have had a chance to meet the students (halfway across the world) at Liangshan or even be acquainted with some of my fellow tutors going to school just a few miles away."
